BACKGROUND
The 6-10 Connector is in dire need of replacement, but it's more than just a broken highway. It's an opportunity to fix a long broken approach to highway design, to reduce long-term roadway maintenance costs, to support economic development and better traffic flow, and to improve quality of life and the health of both the surrounding communities like Federal Hill, West End and Olneyville, and for commuters and those areas of the State lying further out.
It is for all these reasons and more that the Fix The 6-10 Coalition and WBNA are advocating for Governor Gina Raimondo and RI Department of Transportation to STOP the fast-tracking of the 6-10 Connector, and to instead shore up the highway's most vulnerable bridges while pursuing the best design possible.
This best design could incorporate citizen input from the City of Providence, our neighborhoods and other affected communities, and could hold the most benefits for Rhode Island economically, socially and environmentally.
Rhode Island has suffered for too long from short-sightedness and reactiveness. We have before us an opportunity to be innovative, to do the right thing by the communities adjacent to 6-10, and to take advantage of the enormous potential in an infrastructure project as large and important as rebuilding the 6-10 Connector.
SIGN THE PETITION, DONATE and STAY INFORMED about this critical infrastructure project that will impact our neighborhood, the City of Providence and the State of Rhode Island for generations to come.
