West Side Thursdays!

On three Thursdays in July and August, Dexter Training Ground is made even more vibrant by the addition of West Side Thursdays, WBNA's summer performance series in partnership with the City of Providence, now in its 14th year!

If you think the Armory Farmer's Market is a blast, imagine adding live music, Shakespeare in the park, kids activities, the Armory Farmers Market Beer Garden, and more. Always fun, always family-friendly, West Side Thursdays events are a great way to let off a little summer steam.

        Artist BIOs

Karma Rocket creates gritty post-punk sung with soul. Songs are about connections and isolation, cities and the coming apocalypse, destruction and hope. Proud to be part of RI’s 75orLess Records, Karma Rocket is Jim Almo, Jon Ford, Sean Geoghegan, Dan Moos, and Erin Wright.

Karma Rocket member Daniel Moos has worked on several projects in the neighborhood including assisting the WBNA in the brownfield cleanup of the property located at 1326 Westminster. Dan understands and appreciates the vibrancy and diversity of our neighborhood by working on projects to help with the WBNA’s mission to promote the West Side as a safe and sustainable place to be SWELL (Shop, Work, Eat, Live and Learn Locally).

Lindsay Meehan is a children's music artist who founded Music for Children in Rhode Island in 2011 after six years of working with Mary Ann Hall in Connecticut and New York City. In addition, she now brings the program to Moses Brown and Lincoln School and performs throughout the state. Lindsay has degrees in music performance and theatre/dance and has studied and traveled around-the-world, collecting instruments and songs to enrich her teaching.

K.C. Moaners is a five member jug band that has been entertaining folks around Southern New England with music that has a solidly authentic feel and a fresh and light-hearted approach that together provide a rollicking good time every outing. Drawing on old-time blues, jazz and folk sources, the band's blend of traditional (fiddle, guitar, banjo, harmonica, mandolin, ukulele) and non-traditional (kazoo, jug, washboard, washtub, two styles of mouth harp and more) instrumentation lends a free-wheeling style that gets toes tapping and hands clapping every time.

K.C. Moaners is Jim Chapin, Greg Andreozzi, Collete Fournier, Dave Haller, Kevin Collins and Deck Nieforth. Moaners member Dave Haller and his family are long time Hudson Street residents, have participated in WBNA and neighborhood events over the years, and continue to be an important part of our west side community. David is also an avid gardener tending a plot at the Bridgham Community Garden and a West Side Compost Program participant.

Trinity Repertory Company's Shakespeare en el Verano (Shakespeare in the Summer) premieres a bilingual English-Spanish adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in partnership with Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA). Adapted by Brown/Trinity Rep MFA student Marcel Mascaro and co-directed by Mascaro and Trinity Rep’s associate artistic director Tyler Dobrowsky, the production will tour throughout Providence from July 7-July 31, 2017. All performances are free, open to the public and appropriate for all ages.

The diverse cast features local actors from the community, Brown/Trinity Rep MFA students and Trinity Rep teaching staff and artists, and includes Anna Basile, Anita Castillo-Halvorssen, Leandro Castro, Jack Dwyer, Jerediah González, Krystal Hernández, Orlando Hernández, Billy Hutto, Mari Martell, Olivia Miller, Ricardo Nogueras, Arturo Puentes, Dave Rabinow, Maria Rosado, Allison Russo, Marina Tejada, Sophia Washburn. The design team includes Peter Sasha Hurowitz (sound), Steve McLellan (lights), Emily Shapiro (sets and costumes) and Jerediah González (music).

West Side Thursdays is made possible by a grant from the City of Providence and is part of Mayor Jorge Elorza's 2017 Celebrate Providence! Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative.
