In a whole-school collaboration, West Broadway Middle School launches the district’s first-ever chapter of the National Junior Honor Society as well as the district’s only National Student Council with an aim to pair student voice and leadership with academic learning.
Golden Apple Award Goes to West Side Educator
Another accolade goes to the Asa Messer Elementary School teaching team as the Golden Apple Award was given to third grade teacher Rachel Greenberg, who teaches English Language Learners with humor, high expectations and some music, too. We are grateful to have Ms Greenberg's talents and creative approaches at work in our neighborhood, and thank her for her commitment to west side kids.
West Side Educator Awarded Teacher of the Year
The city's top honor for outstanding teacher goes to Rachel DeNofio, kindergarten teacher at Asa Messer Elementary School, who was lauded last week for her mastery of personalized teaching, deep relationships with students & families, and sharing her talents with educators statewide as leader of a model classroom for differentiated instruction.

Last Friday Denise Missry of Asa Messer Elementary School was honored as the Rhode Island Elementary School Principal of the Year in a lively celebration that included the entire school community along with Mayor Jorge Elorza, city and state elected officials, education leaders and west side community members.
